Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) (TTMT), a subsidiary under the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) has successfully raised RM600 million (US$196 million) commodity Murabahah Sukuk through its special purpose vehicle, TTM SPV.
The deal is seen as a significant landmark transaction for the PTT Group as it represents the first Thai issuer to enter the Islamic capital market. The PTT Group hopes this benchmark Sukuk transaction will act as a catalyst for more Islamic financing by Thai issuers in Thailand and abroad. The Q&A was conducted with Phiraphon Lapharojkij, project service manager at Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand): 1. Why did you use this particular Islamic structure? 2. What will this capital be used for? 3. What were the challenges faced and how were they resolved? 4. Geographically speaking, where did the investors come from? 5. Was this deal rated? |
