Muscat, 12th September 2023: IFN Oman Forum, a prominent event in the Islamic finance industry, was held in Muscat on the 12th of September 2023. Under the patronage of Abdullah Salim Al-Salmi, the executive president of the Capital Market Authority, Sultanate of Oman, and the IsDB as multilateral strategic partners, the event attracted esteemed speakers, industry professionals, and a diverse international audience of stakeholders within the Islamic finance sector.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Abdullah Salim Al-Salmi, followed by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Awang Adek Hussin, the executive chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia.
The first discussion titled ‘Omani Islamic Financial Services: A Successful Strategy for Building Momentum’ focused on reviewing the 10-year journey of formalized Islamic finance in Oman and navigating the coming years through the strategic development of the Omani Islamic financial services ecosystem and the role of Islamic finance in the development of the private sector.
The second discussion titled ‘Driving the Development of Shariah Compliant Direct Investment and Fund & Asset Management in Oman’ explored opportunities for regional Shariah-compliant funds domiciled through equity, Sukuk, and private equity funds.
The conference also featured discussions on ‘Building Oman as a Regional Centre for Islamic Structured Finance and Capital Markets,’ as well as ‘Oman’s Opportunity in Alternative Finance: Shariah-Compliant Marketplace Financing and Digital Initiatives.’ Lastly, the event featured the ‘Islamic Sustainable Finance & Investment Dialogue,’ which focused on blueprints for advancing the transition to a low-carbon economy via effective stakeholder collaboration, regulation, resource allocation, positioning, and product innovation in the Omani financial services sector.
