MALAYSIA: Stephen Hawkins, the executive director of D H Flinders, has stated that Malaysia presents good investment opportunities for Islamic real estate investment trusts (REITs).
He said the country provides a structured environment for fund managers and operators due to the existing awareness of Shariah law and Islamic REITs guidelines.
Hawkins also believes that by having an established conventional REIT market in Malaysia, both local and foreign investors would be confident in diversifying their investment portfolio into Islamic REITs. Islamic REITs usually consist of investments in industrial properties because those are the easiest to assess and are Shariah compliant, added Hawkins.
