QATAR: Following the listing of treasury bills on the Qatar Exchange on the 29th December 2011, the trading of sovereign conventional and Islamic bonds on the bourse will start at “a later stage”, said Abdullah Saud Al-Thani, the governor of the Central Bank of Qatar. The listing of government bonds on the exchange is expected to boost the country’s secondary market; with the more active debt market targeted to encourage more corporate bond issuance and less reliance on bank lending.
