GLOBAL: Two weeks after IFN announced the best Islamic banks in the world in 2022, we are pleased to reveal this year’s winners of the IFN Best Banks Poll 2022 – Country: the best local Shariah banks in key Islamic finance jurisdictions.
To ensure a more accurate representation of each jurisdiction’s Islamic banking sector, and to home in on the banks’ specializations, IFN has this year debuted five new categories: Best Investment Bank; Best Corporate Bank; Best Retail Bank; Most Innovative Bank; and Best Digital Offering.
The voting process has also been refined to complement the new categories: it now allows only local industry professionals to vote for banks in their respective markets.
This year, IFN received a record 38,000 votes for the IFN Best Islamic Banks poll, making it the most successful in its 18-year run. We see familiar names taking the lead positions, particularly in Islamic finance powerhouses in the GCC and Southeast Asia, including Kuwait Finance House, Al Rajhi Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Bank Syariah Indonesia and CIMB Islamic Bank.
Meanwhile, a few digital-only entrants in the domestic markets bagged the Best Digital Offering in their jurisdictions, including Bank Islam Malaysia’s Be U digital bank and Gulf International Bank’s Meem, among others.
The past year showed the resilience of the Islamic banking industry in their respective markets despite a challenging environment and three years into the COVID-19 pandemic.
As such, IFN congratulates all the winners of the poll, and we look forward to celebrating our local champions in March 2023 at the IFN Awards Ceremony in Dubai, UAE, where the winner of the IFN Best Overall Islamic Bank will also be revealed.
